Overall this is a good investment, and there are a couple of card mentalism pieces worth the price of the set. The explanations are very clear and some of the material is amazing (others are pretty obvious to magicians, using double lifts and whatnot). David Regal is a king of routining. I gave it 3 stars not because it was weak, but because of the following reasons:
- very card heavy (although I learned really good sleights, subtleties, and ideas)
- it didn't seem like 3 full sets; the first and third parts were indeed full performance sets, broken down piece by piece; the second part was one tricks only - albeit amazing (a spectator counts down to a card face up, freely stops on any card, and it is the only odd backed card in the deck, card fully examinable; amazing thinking and I will try it out on real spectators soon enough!)
My favorites, in addition to the above, were:
- spectator freely cutting to the Aces
- an amazing "everywhere and nowhere" routine where a chosen card appears numerous times, with a major surprise
- a ring travels from under one glass to another in a devious fashion
- the face of a chosen card visually peels off and is pasted on another surface; it is then stomped back on the card and is immediately examinable
For the price I recommend buying this; even if you are not a card guy, you will get routining ideas, some mentalism, and an appreciation for the thinking of David Regal
